The stock of elk has in the last years been very large. - Maybe to large, and in some parts of Setesdal the stock of elk has been deliberately reduced through hunting. In the Valle district the deer have established themselves in the northern parts, and in the last couple of years very big bucks has been shot in this area. You'll find wild reindeer both in Setesdal Austhei and Setesdal Vesthei. The stock has varied some in the last couple of years, but it seems that the stock is gradually increasing in Setesdal Vesthei. The roe-deer lives in both the valley bottom and in the upland (especially during the summer season).
