The last decades have seen a formidable effort to improve water quality in and around the Setesdal valley. Many lakes were heavily affected by acid precipitation and living conditions for trout populations were poor.

Now with well organised chalking over many years, fishing populations are thriving and stocks have improved both in quantity and quality.

The fishing domain lies in the heart of the Setesdal Vesthei Ryfylkeheiane landscape reserve and along the Suleskarroad, just 12km west of Brokke. Sale of permits for fishing with nets is limited to lakes and waterways that Brokke disposes in their entireity, these are: Øyuvsvann (930m), Ivlungsvatna south of the Suleskarroad (a series of interconnected highland lakes ca970m), Steinbutjørnin (972m) and Hallvorstjørn (955m). A rod- and flyfishing permit is also valid in a number of other waters in the area.

Net fishing includes the use of a rowboat. There are two rowboats, one at Øyuvsvatn and one on the shores of the first Ivlungsvatn, next to the Suleskarveg road. It is possible to rent a canoe with paddles and floatingvests in stead of a rowboat - you'll get further! Surcharge for a canoe is 250kr/d, to be paid on Brokkestøylen.

Please note that a net-fishing permit is ordered for either Ivlungsvatna/Steinbutjørnin/Hallvorstjørn or Øyuvsvatn/Svarteløken/Øyuvsløken.

Free parking can be found in the public lot close to Øyuvsbu, just across the brigde over the Ivlungsvatna, and as well in the smaller lot a couple of hundred meters east of the Ivlungsvatna. In both cases, it is a couple of hundred meters to the waterfront, but as the road runs past the lake, it is possible to load off equipment on the very shore.

Intestines and organic waste is to be burried to prevent the spread of diseases and parasites. The permit allows for the use of maximum 5 nets, of which 2 small-meshed. Fishing of small fish is desired in order to guarantee optimal fishing also in the future. The nets and additional equipment can be picked up at Brokkestøylen and are to be brought back well cleaned and without holes.
