Brokke Aktivitet is closely cooperating with owners of several mountain lakes in the Setesdal Vesthei landscape reserve, an extended highland to the west of the Setesdal valley. Many of these lakes have been chalked and managed for healthy fishstocks and ideal fishing. Whether you are bringing your family along or are tackling in the big ones yourself, the area offers fishing to everyone's liking. So get packed and discover the best of mountain fishing in southern Norway!
The fishing domain lies in the heart of the Setesdal Vesthei landscape reserve along the touristic Suleskarroad, 12km straight west of Brokke. The landscape lies above the timberline and is characterised by stony hills and rounded ridges, millennial boulders left after the ice age and idyllic grass-clad valleys with countless lakes, ponds and marshes. Here you find Europe's southernmost wild reindeer and what perhaps is Europe's southernmost true wilderness.
Fishing licences for rod are valid in Øyuvsvatn (930m), Ivelungsvatna (970m) and a series of lakes and waterways in the vicinity, a.o. Steinbutjørnin (972m), Hallvorstjørn (955m), Øyusløkjene (893m), upper part of Sandvatn (880m) and along the river to the upper part of Løken fagre (860m), then along both shores av the river Kvina from Rågeloni (838m) to the dam at Håhellervatnet (former Busteinsvatn - 868m).

Brown-Trout stocks are particularly high in Øyuvsvatn and Ivelungsvatna where biological surveys just a couple of years ago conveyed average sizes og about 200gram. Since then, there has been some fishing and last years catch seems to point to increased average sizes, whilst the population is still high. Wormfishing with throwweights is a recommended catch method here, but you may also try a dark spinner. Excellent conditions for fishing fun for the entire family!
If you're after the big ones, you may try the lakes and rivers between Sandvatn and Håhellervatnet. You may catch Brook-Trout here as well! Try flyfishing in the rivers...
Free parking can be found in the public lot close to Øyuvsbu, just across the brigde over the Ivlungsvatna, and as well in the smaller lot a couple of hundred meters east of the Ivlungsvatna. In both cases, it is a couple of hundred meters to the waterfront, but as the road runs past the lake, it is possible to load off equipment on the very shore.
Use of living bait, except worms, is not allowed. Intestines and organic waste is to be burried to prevent the spread of diseases and parasites. There is no restriction to the amount of rods that can be used per person.
Members of DNT (Den Norske Turistforening) that can show a membership card, are allowed free fishing in the domain!
A family permit is for nuclear families only and bound to a maximum of four rods / lines.
